About
About AdDeck
Who
I'm Matt, a media professional with more than 20 years of experience across design, marketing, print publishing, and digital media.
Over that time, I've worked with a wide range of advertising formats, technologies, and workflows, giving me a front-row seat to how the industry has evolved.
Why
Having spent much of my career in print, I've watched advertising shift rapidly towards digital products, platforms, and experiences.
The idea for AdDeck came from a simple need: to better understand the ever-expanding world of digital advertising. While there are plenty of technical specifications and industry documents available, they're often difficult to navigate or written for specialists.
AdDeck aims to bridge that gap by providing clear, plain-English explanations of advertising formats, how they work, and where they're used.
What
AdDeck is a growing reference library for advertising formats.
Each format has its own dedicated page, covering key specifications, terminology, technical requirements, and real-world examples. Whether you're new to advertising, work in media, or simply want to understand the ads you encounter online, the goal is to make the information accessible and practical.
Over time, the site will expand to include more formats, channels, and industry knowledge.
How
AdDeck is built with Next.js and delivered as lightweight static HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to keep the site fast, responsive, and easy to access.
The site also serves advertising through Google AdSense, meaning AdDeck isn't just a guide to ad formats—it's a live example of them in action.
The Goal
Advertising can be full of acronyms, jargon, and assumptions about what people already know.
AdDeck exists to make advertising easier to understand, providing a practical starting point for anyone curious about media, marketing, publishing, or digital advertising.
